AUSPICIOUS START:
Deputy Commissioner T.K. Anil Kumar inaugurating the music
conference in Shimoga on Sunday. SHIMOGA: A endition of Dasara
kritis by students of the Guru Guha Sangeeta Mahavidyalaya kicked
off the eight-day State-level Music Conference-2006 organised by the
Shivamukh Sangeet Academy here on Sunday. Kuvempu Rangamandira,
the venue of the conference, reverberated with music as the receptive
audience joined the young vocalists in chorus. Presiding over the
inaugural function, musician T.S. Satyavathi, in the absence of her
guru and renowned Carnatic vocalist Sangeet Kalanidhi R.K.Srikanthan,
hailed Shimoga as culturally rich and vibrant. Deputy Commissioner
T.K. Anilkumar, who inaugurated the conference, said listening to good
music was as much important as rendering it. It was the encouragement
that sustained the interest of artistes. President of the Shivamukh
Sangeet Academy M. Bharadwaj handed over the presidentship of the
inaugural function to Ms. Satyavathi.
Determination :
Musician S.H. Prasanna Venkatesh, who inaugurated the lecture-cum
- demonstration series, said that music can be mastered only with
determination. edic scholar H.A. Narasimhamurthy Iyengar lauded
the gesture of the organisers to name the dais after the late Keertishesha
Veena Vidwan Raj Iyengar.
Earlier Dr. Rama Prasad, member of the academy, welcomed the
gathering. Hindustani classical musician Indoodhar Nirodi; secretary of
Aalaap-the musical forum of Shimoga, V.D.V. Prasad; H.C. Ravindranath
Sastry of the Malnad Alloy Castings; Assistant Director of Information
Rame Gowda and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture N. Harikumar
were present. R.K. Srikanthan delivered a special lecture on classical music
as a precursor to the conference at the Sri. Ram Mandir here on Friday.

art forms including music to help them retain their traditional glory. He said

Sri. Prasannanath Swamiji of the local branch of the Adichunchanagiri Math
